Ippduo is my favorite ramen chain in Japan and I’m glad to see it in NYC. It is by far the best ramen option in the city IMO (not counting Santouka in NJ). That said, it is different from the shops in Japan. The place in NY is huge and the menu is more izakya style. The soup itself is not much different though, of course not quite as good as the stuff in Japan

The biggest thing for me about the NYC shop is lack of condiments. Check out Ippudo NYC for more ramen goodies.

You’re right. The dessert has nothing to do with Korean, I had meant that to refer to the rice bowl above that.

I was wondering myself what’s so Japanese-y about this restaurant. The only thing that stood out to me is that the barbeque meats seemed a little bit lighter than the Korean barbeque stuffs I’ve eaten.

what’s Japanese about Gyu-Kaku, a pedestrian chain I know (of) from LA? Except maybe the name and ownership? Actually that dessert doesn’t look Korean.

Thanks for checking it out. This is one of those places I’ve been meaning to try. Gold flakes, how sad. I was impressed at BondST when they first opened in the late 90s? When it gets right down to it, I wonder if there are ANY undersung gems in NYC.
